Picture #6: Describe: A picture of a window looking out. There are raindrops on the window and outside there are streetlamps, trees, buildings, and a bike rack. Everything but the raindrops is blurry. Interpret: The mood of this picture seems melancholy, like it's from the point of view of a person who can only see the negative aspects of life, like the rain. Theorize: This picture could be about enjoying small things in life and not getting caught up in what you feel to be negative. Judge: I like it.
Picture #9 Describe: Two benches and a pick-nick table; outside; foliage; building with windows; brick pavement; leaves on the ground Interpret: The picture looks romantic because of the lighting on the bench; the bench is outside in a courtyard; the picture was taken in the afternoon in Fall; the bushes and leaves are dead and dried up. Theorize: This picture is about two people who are destined to meet. The lighting of the bench and atmosphere makes me think of a romantic scenery where the two people meet for the first time sitting on the bench, and it's love at first sight. Judgement: I love this picture because of its composition, context, and lighting.
Describe: Two wooden benches and an off-screen picnic table, all placed in a courtyard with controlled vegetation to the left and right. There is a shadow cast by the front most bench, and shadows casted by the building and plant life. There are several windows to the building, and it is structured out of brick. There are leaves all around on the ground. Interpret: The light suggests a mid-day atmosphere, the focus on the front most bench. The leaves on the ground implies fall or winter is approaching. Theorize: The empty bench seems to be waiting to me. As if it is waiting for a romantic moment to happen or for anyone to come by and sit for a moment. The focus, shadows, and placement give this bench an interesting character, I believe, and the wood makes it seem older, perhaps as if it were a wise or an eager bench. Judgement: I find this image visually interesting, but mostly because I find a lot to interpret from it. Visually it appeals to the rule of thirds, but aside from that, I don't find much else to be attention grabbing.
Describe: Wood and brick next to each other. There are rings in the wood and the bricks are lined up horizontally in an offset pattern. Interpret:The wood and brick are there for for support. It is probably in the late afternoon because of the shadows. The wood has been there for a long time because of the cracks. Theorize: There is a battle going on between the two. Nature vs manmade. Which is better? They seem to be both retaining probably earth. Judgement: I enjoy this photo because of it's simplicity, but yet conflicting nature vs manmade.
