  1. Photo #1
Describe: Close crop of a comic page; high contrast; shadow and light play across the open comic page.
Interpret: The comic is from the cartoon section in a newspaper; it looks like morning light across the newspaper.
Theorize: The picture represents getting up in the mornings. Because the picture is of a comic panel, it reminds me of children. So, this could be about a very early morning, where the mother is trying to wake her kids up for school. The newspaper is being read over a bowl of cereal before school.
Judgement: I like this photo because of the composition and lighting.

  2. image #5

description: figure lies on top of a grassy area, which is surrounded by sidewalks and foliage. A trashcan is visible in the foreground, while a brick building is visible in the background.

interpretation: a fatigued man seeks rest and shields his eyes from the sun with his arm. He sleeps near Little Hall. His sprawled appearance suggests that he wants to be as comfortable as possible on a grass bed. The brightness of the photo suggests that the photo was taken at daytime.

theorization: the man is bold and not at all self conscious if he can rest in a public area and plain sight. He doesn't care if people look at him. He's most likely a student who has limited time or means to find more private places to rest.

judgement: The inclusion of the trash can and building definitely adds depth the photo, which makes it more interesting to look at. Not only that, but those two objects along with the man and sidewalk make a really interesting diagonal direction that leads the eye. That is probably my most favorite part of this image

  3. Describe: a sign is sideways covering almost the entire right frame of the photo. In large white text it says college of Design, Construction & Planning. Two trees are framed by the brick-pattern wall and the sign. Someone is resting in a hammock hung between the two trees.the ground all around them is inorganic and flat
Interpret: the area around the person is constructed by man and even the trees were probably put there by man. This picture was taken on UF campus and the building is made of brick and concrete
Theorize: the person is probably a student of the architecture school and is resting in their Eno (a term I recently learned about for this type of hammock) before or after another class. They are enjoying the sunny day and have probably been working hard and sleeping little, as most architecture students do.
Judgment: I like the way that the student is framed by the building, but wish that the sign wasn't cut out in the middle of the text
