10 Best 10/24/14

  1. Describe: An empty classroom, windows, American flag on the wall, dark with very little light
Interpret: The bright light source coming from the window is shining onto an empty classroom. This light barely covers the whole room, leaving a majority of the room in the dark. This lack of light symbolizes the lack of effort in American's education system today. The windows are covered on purpose, so the room could have been better lit, just like our education is failing because of our own doing.
Theorize: The lighting of pictures adds a second, deeper element that can't be achieved with the subject alone.
Judge: I really like the photo, and the meaning I derive from it. I think it could be slightly brighter overall though.

  2. Describe: a 4-section window at the end of a short hallway, letting light in. There are some lockers at the right side of the hallway which are open. The walls look like brick and there is a single light on the flat ceiling. The small hallway looks to open into a larger hallway that is mostly cut by the frame of the image. Trees can be seen from outside the window
Interpret: this is a brick hallway at a school, which is why there are the lockers. The window lets in light from outside since the electric light at the top doesn't seem to brighten the hall much
Theorize: these are the lockers outside of the third floor of FAD, near the photo lab. The opening of the hall that isn't seen probably leads to the stairs.
Judge: the lighting of this photo is very dramatic. I appreciate how the natural light is much brighter than artificial light
