Best Photographs V

  1. Describe: Tree trunks in the foreground, some darker than others. A tall, metallic structure in the distance. There is a group of trees, but only one of those structures.
Interpret: The man made structure is much farther from the trees, creating a distanced feeling. This is amplified by the singular metallic creation compared to the grouped trees.
Theorize: There is an isolation with technology as opposed to the unification of nature. The technology is trying to blend itself in with the height and slenderness of the trees, but it is far away and separated from the trees that grow together and benefit from one another.
Judgement: I really like the image for what it suggests, especially with the obvious distance and focus on the structure being apart from the trees. There could have been a little better structure for the image, but I still really enjoy it.

  2. Describe: leaves coming from the upper left corner of the image, rocks, circular object, metal fencing. concrete
Interpret: the vine of leaves draws our eye across the composition, and is framed on its top half by the bottom of a metal fence. the vines almost seem connected to the metal ring.
Theorize: the elements(metal, plant, stone) seem to be working together in harmony in this photograph. the subject matter seems to combine to represent a naturally formed dream catcher.
Judgment: I like the combination of the different materials and textures.

  3. photo #4

description: a body of water and bushes are visible. There are also two pathways. Trees are reflected into the water, which has leaves.

interpretation: It appears to be two wooden stairways, or one divided into two, that both lead down into the water.

theorizing: perhaps a flood has made the seemingly path seemingly illogical. This creates a sense of entrapment. However, the paths that lead into the way may also depict a mysterious journey into an unknown world.

judgement: seeing this scene is already interesting and attracts more attention. Having water as a central point of the image is effective in emphasizing the 'wetness" of the image and thoughts of someone walking into it.
