Ten Best

  1. Photo 1:
Describe - a textured plane holds several objects, and in the background, a vertical plane intersects, with a clapboard siding texture.
Interpret - It appears to be a small amount of refuse sitting on the ground, outside, presumably.
Theorize - The softness of the light seems to contradict with the rough texture of the ground, suggesting indoor lighting, the side lighting also suggest either early in the morning, or indoors. It is actually quite difficult to determine the material of the ground.
Judgement - I like the photo, despite it seeming devoid of subject on the first glance, there is something captivating and subtly forlorn about its composition. i am also a sucker for an intense depth-of-field.

  2. Describe: There is a circular border around the image of a hand playing with objects on a shiny surface, with trees and a grassy plain in the background. There is an assortment of plant- or seed-like objects scattered across the table.
Interpret: It looks as though someone is playing with what is most likely acorns on a picnic table in what would probably be a park of some kind. The circular border might be the camera looking through a sort of happenstance peep hole, perhaps.
Theorize: The peep-hole like border makes me think of looking into someone's life on an ordinary day when they are playing in the park with usual things happening around them. There is a lot of life, so summer or late summer would come to mind. It just seems to me to be an intense focus on mundane activities, which is fairly interesting to think about. What makes one moment more enjoyable than the last? What makes one part of our lives more interesting than another?
Judgement: I really enjoy the circular border, but I feel like the composition could be a little better. The ideas that come to mind, despite this being a pretty normal activity, make this a really picture to me.
