Picture #9 Description: sky with clouds; two walls on the top and bottom of the image; the walls are brick; the image was taken looking up at the sky; unfocused; the left side has another wall with a reflective side; balanced and almost symmetrical Interpret: The reflective wall is a window; the person is almost enclosed by the two sides of the buildings; the sky is clear and bright, yet with lots of clouds; this picture gives off the feeling of entrapment Theorize: In this image, the viewer who is looking up at the sky feels trapped and chained because of the problems and hardship of life/reality. They are looking upward, envisioning themselves flying, above the clouds, free without a care in the world. They are trying to give themselves hope, looking on the brighter side, instead of facing the boring, prison-like and routine-like life. The sides of the buildings make the person looked trapped, with small chance of escape through the opening of the sky. Judgement: I love this picture because of the composition, context, and lighting. The sides of the building are illuminated nicely and I love the sky shot.
Image #3 Description: A window with text, the text depicts both letters and numbers. There are cakes behind the window standing on pedestals. The pedestals stand on a hardwood base. The window is framed by a pale-colored wood. Across the street stands a brick building, as shown in the reflection. Trees surround the brick building behind the photographer. There are people behind the glass, facing away from the photographer. The lights are on inside. Interpret: The glass is a storefront. The text is contact information about the business. The business is a bakery. The cakes behind the glass are false displays to lure customers. It is daylight outside. Theorize: The person indoors is a customer debating a purchase. The building across the street is older than the one in front of the photographer. The title "Sugar Refined" is a grammatical play on the product "Refined Sugar." The photographer is taking a leisurely stroll downtown when this little business captured their attention. The store specializes in fancy tiered cakes for special occasions like weddings. Judgement: I like how I have three separate images to choose from to focus on: the people within the store, the storefront window, and the scene outside. I also love the varying shades and tones, ranging from the bright white of the frame surrounding the window to the darker shades inside and in the tree across the street.
