10 best of week 11/21/14

  1. Image 10:
Describe: A decaying mattress in the forest. It is covered with branches and leaves. The mattress is the lightest thing in the picture plane. There are blurred leaves in the foreground.
Analyze: This picture has a slightly melancholy feel as if something has been abandoned or forgotten.
Theorize: This image could be about death and the way memories of lost loved ones are eventually forgotten to make room for new ones.
Judge: I like it, it's intriguing.

  2. Image #3
Describe: A dense yard full of trees, grass, leaves, and vines; a wooden fence and a yard-shed; power lines; a spotlight emphasizing the yard-shed and back fence.
Interpret: The photo is of a backyard, with a shed; the yard is not a place for children to play; it is full of debris and looks abandon; it looks almost harmful because there could be snakes or large spiders creeping underneath all the stuff on the ground. The ray of light that falls only on the shed and fence make the image look like it was trying to make those objects important. The setting and environment almost look fairytale like because of the lighting and cluster of nature (vines).
Theorize: This photo captures a fleeting random moment of time, where the light of the sun has fallen upon a specific area. This accidental spotlight puts emphasis on the shed and fence, including the space in between the two, and draws the eyes to it first.
Judgement: I love this photo for its composition, lighting, and content. I also liked all of the pictures in this 10 best.

  3. Describe: Trees, grass, vertical composition, sky, low contrast
Interpret: The one-point perspective of the tree line creates an idea that the path will never end. It gives a feeling that the viewer is small, due to the trees vast size, and has a long road ahead of them. The sky also adds to this idea, because it appears as if it is infinite. The path isn't mysterious, but the viewer does not know if there will ever be a final end point.
Theorize: The perspective of the photo is meant to make the viewer feel small compared to the vastness of nature.
Judge: I love the perspective of the photo, especially since you got right in the middle of the two tree lines.
