description: three boys stand on a sidewalk. Houses and a street can be seen in the background. The boy on the left in dressed in a black long sleeve costume that has the words "magic 8 ball" on it. The center boy has a dress on and holds a (presumably) toy gun, and carries some sort of obscured backpack. The boy on the right looks away and has a button up shirt on with sunglasses and a hat. The boys on the right and left hold publix bags.

interpretation: it was probably Halloween day at a neighborhood removed from the general student populated areas in Gainesville. The three boys are trick or treaters based on their costumes, young age, and bags. They are hoping to get candy or have already received it. The boy on the left is clearly a magic eight ball. The boy on the right is probably some fictional character or made up person. The boy in the center, though, is highly unusual. One, because he is in a dress that would be reserved for girls. Two, because he also wields a machine gun with that dress. This may be a reference to some story, or an improvised costume.

Theorizing: Seeing these boys, especially the center one, makes for a very interesting photo. One can already tell how bold or silly he can be based on his decision to go outside in a dress and rifle. This is accentuated by the fact that he smiles to the camera while his friends in more tame costumes look awkwardly away.

judgement: This photo was quite humorous to me, and brings back a time when many of us were young trick or treaters in costumes. This image definitely caught my eye, and was a pleasure to examine

  2. Describe: (by my count) approximately 23 eggs. They are laid out on a towel but there could be more outside of the picture frame because the ones in the back are out of focus. There appears to be a large paintbrush laying amongst the eggs
Interpret: these are chicken eggs, that probably aren't good to eat because they look like they haven't been refrigerated for a while. The paint brush is possibly to paint the eggs themselves or to start off an unseen painting about the eggs
Theorize: these are chicken eggs that are for some sort of painting project. I can't completely tell but it looks like they might be just the shells cut in half, or nuzzled deep into the towel
Judge: this picture raises a lot of questions because it is such an unusual composition. Who needs so many eggshells? I think these questions add to its intrigue

  3. Image #7:
Describe: a lamp equipped with transparent settings, the light is on. There are 4 separate settings for the filters. It stands in front of a solid wall, apart from a single object mounted in the background.
Interpret: The transparent settings are light filters to shine a specific color or effect onto another piece. This lamp looks like it stands fairly tall.
Theorize: This is a piece in an art show. I doubt it was meant to stand alone, and it probably projects light onto another piece. The wall behind the lamp is blank because it is in a gallery. The object mounted onto the wall is another art piece.
Judgement: The perfect circles remind me of the 1970s era. I love the differently-shaded frames, it adds a lot of visual interest to have them overlap each other like so. I like how the most prominent frame is nearly opaque as to fuzz out the background. Well done.

Image #4: I just realized I forgot to "judge" on another review, so I'm going to simply judge this one here. :)
Judge: I love lines in this piece. There is also a great variety of values present. I like how the darker hues and more geometric shapes are confined to the left, and the brighter values and organic shapes (in the trees and vines, people, etc.) are restricted to the right. I think it makes a great comment on the bridge between nature and human influence in architecture. If anything, I wish the outdoors sector on the right was toned down a little. The whites are a bit bright. I also wish the outdoor area was a bit blurred to show a greater depth of field between the foreground and background. Still a wonderful photo!
